We can also measure objects by comparing them with objects or using some common non-uniform units like span, cubit, etc.

So we can say that Tina’s desk is 4 hand spans.

Or that the length of the skipping rope is 8 foot spans.

 This is known as measuring the length of something.

  You can even measure your height with ruler.

You must have seen your tailor using his long tape to measure your clothes.

When you go to buy shoes, the shopkeeper measures your feet.

The bicycle is lighter than the bus.

Or the bus is heavier than the bicycle.

Or we can say that the weight of the bus is more than that of the bicycle.

You must have seen shopkeepers or vegetable sellers using scale to measure things. 

The heavier side of the scale goes down.

The ability of a body to hold or contain a particular amount of something is called capacity.

Capacity can be measured in  Liters  (L).

This bottle has the capacity to hold 1 L of water.
